December brings the paintings of Emily Bernath and drawings of Ryan Carr to the walls of 5 Windows Gallery. Emily’s latest works come from an elevated perspective, suspended just above her subject matter. As ever with her work, the paintings present idolized figures, isolated bodies against a dark or patterned background.  Their iconic nature hearkens to the conception of each idea, a sudden light within the dark, ornate expanse of the mind.

While Emily was finishing up her painting degree at Rhode Island School of Design in 2006, Ryan Carr was entering his second year at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where he earned his degree in Illustration. The two grew up in Ventura, CA, and studied art together under Tori Sepulveda at Buena High School.  During these formative years, they also attended evening nude figure drawing classes together.  Their pact to pursue the arts was sealed.
