The paintings of Emily Bernath will be featured this November at 5 Windows Gallery.  Some of her current works were created in response to the summer fires.  The paintings show not only how she grappled with the smoke and loss, but also depict an ongoing and unfolding reverence for the individuals who lost their lives just by doing their jobs in her home of Junction City.  Emily, in turn, has always felt her ‘job’ as a painter to involve honoring the memory of those passed & pursuing some understanding of who or what they remain for the living.  She memorializes & iconicizes in response to her own struggle of questioning versus embracing the unknown, a process she finds most palpable (both spiritually & creatively) when faced with human loss.
